SunMountain Center is a historic landmark retreat center with focus on health and wellness lifestyles. We are located at the base of the Rocky Mountains in Manitou Springs, Colorado. SunMountain is part of a larger brand experience including a wellness spa, event company, international retreats and online education platform.


Job Summary:

The Cook is primarily responsible for cooking meals for retreats, and breakfasts for overnight guests 5 days a week. This position reports to the Kitchen Manager.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare meals for retreats (10-50ppl) and/or breakfast for B&B guests
  • Set up dining area for meals and clean kitchen/dishes after service
  • Interact with guests once they are served
  • Manage the kitchen in the absence of the Kitchen Manager
  • Assist in task list preparation
  • Maintain a safe and clean kitchen
  • Assist in creating grocery lists and making orders
  • Assist in inventory audits
  • Assist in creating and cataloguing recipes
  • Assist in cost reporting and analysis
  • Prepping before and cleaning after meals
  • Preparation for events, ensuring necessary food service requirements are ready
  • Foster a welcoming & safe experience for guests and staff
  • Encourage open and professional dialog with staff


Position Requirements:

  • At least 5 years experience cooking professionally
  • Work effectively on a team as well as individually
  • Have flexibility in work hours
  • Must be able to stay calm under occasional fast paced conditions
  • Enjoy working with people and possess a friendly, solution-oriented personality
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Must have ability to multi-task
  • Must have a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and customer service skills
  • Respect the environment of peacefulness and tranquility while getting jobs accomplished
  • Alignment with wellness vision and mindset of SunMountain Center


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Culinary school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Customer service experience


Physical Requirements:

  • Physical stamina and mobility including ability to reach, kneel, squat and bend
  • Ability to lift, push and pull required 30lbs
  • Ability to prep, serve and clean for three meals a day, for the duration of retreats
  • Walk up and down stairs
